Apac, Uganda – July 22, 2026 – The NRM District Chairperson for Apac Chairperson, Mr. Talib Okabo, has issued a passionate call to residents to vote for National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearers in the upcoming Local Council I (LC1) elections, emphasizing that party alignment is crucial for coordinated development and effective implementation of government programs.
Speaking to community members, Okabo argued that since the district already has NRM leaders at the top—including President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, two NRM Members of Parliament representing Apac, the district chairperson himself, and NRM leadership in 9 out of the 12 sub-counties—it is strategically important to elect NRM-affiliated LC1 chairpersons to maintain continuity.
"The LC1 position is very critical, especially when it comes to implementing government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) restocking and other grassroots initiatives," Okabo stated. "It is therefore very important to vote for NRM so that the chain of development is not broken. We need coordination from the top down to the village level."
He further stressed that having NRM leaders at the LC1 level would streamline communication and ensure that government resources and projects reach beneficiaries without bureaucratic friction. "If we have NRM leaders from the presidency all the way to the village, we can deliver services faster and more effectively for our people," he added.
However, Okabo also addressed ongoing challenges, revealing that he has faced opposition from individuals who, according to him, are "hunting and fighting him with uselessness accusations" in an attempt to weaken the party's influence in Apac. He dismissed these efforts as distractions but acknowledged that they are part of a broader scheme to undermine NRM's stronghold in the district.
"Much as there are some people who are fighting me with baseless accusations, I want to assure you that I will continue to deliver for NRM victory," Okabo declared. "Their intent is to weaken the party in Apac, but we shall not be moved. We remain focused and united."
Political analysts note that the LC1 elections are often fiercely contested in the region, as the position serves as the primary entry point for grassroots governance and community mobilization. With the PDM program gaining traction, the ruling party is keen to secure loyal cadres at the village level to oversee the disbursement and monitoring of funds meant for poverty alleviation.
The Electoral Commission is yet to announce the official roadmap for the LC1 elections, but campaigns are already heating up across the district as various political groupings position themselves for the polls.
Okabo concluded his address by urging residents to turn out in large numbers and make the right choice for the continuity of NRM leadership and the prosperity of Apac District.
