KOLE DISTRICT, UGANDA — Victoria Mixed Farm in Odeorwot Village, Akalo Sub County, Kole District, has announced an open invitation to youth seeking to acquire practical skills and knowledge in cocoa and banana cultivation.
The farm's director, Dr. Isaac Orec, said the initiative is aimed at equipping young people with hands-on agricultural skills that can translate into real income. He encouraged youth to embrace cocoa farming, noting that the venture offers both short-term and long-term financial rewards.
"In the first year, they will start getting money from bananas, and later they will earn big from cocoa," Dr. Orec said, explaining that the intercropping model provides early returns while the cocoa matures.
According to Dr. Orec, Victoria Mixed Farm also has plans to begin producing chocolate from cocoa locally in Akalo in the near future — a move that could add value to the crop and create further economic opportunities for the community.
He rallied young people to take the lead in cocoa growing, describing it as a crop with strong market potential and the capacity to transform livelihoods in the region.
The training program is expected to attract youth from across Kole District and beyond who are interested in building careers in agriculture.
