KAMPALA — Lira District Woman Member of Parliament Linda Agness Auma on Friday publicly endorsed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for president in 2031, calling him "the standby generator" Uganda needs and urging every Ugandan to come out and endorse him.
Auma made the declaration at the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) headquarters, where she formally added her name to the growing list of backers of the ruling party's first son and Chief of Defence Forces.
"What he is doing is what Uganda needs," Auma said. "He is fighting corruption, promoting checks and balances within the NRM government, and he loves Uganda."
She stressed that Muhoozi's concern goes beyond his own interests. "He is not only concerned about his own wellbeing — he cares about the wellbeing of Uganda," she said.
Auma singled out Muhoozi's anti-corruption stance as proof of his commitment to ordinary citizens, noting that he has taken on the fight despite being the son of President Yoweri Museveni.
"Once services reach the locals, that is important. But Muhoozi came out to fight corruption — even though he is the son of the president, he came out to fight for the common man," she said.
The Lira MP called on those who have not yet endorsed the general to do so without delay, describing him as a "standby generator" ready to power the country forward.
"Every Ugandan should come out and endorse Muhoozi," Auma said.
Her endorsement aligns with PLU's nationwide mobilization ahead of the 2031 elections. The group has held registration and endorsement drives across the country in recent months, with several former ministers and sitting legislators publicly backing Muhoozi's anticipated candidacy.
Muhoozi, who chairs PLU while serving as CDF, has dominated recent political headlines through his "Maliza Ufisadi" (End Corruption) campaign. The operation has seen investigations into senior officials, including searches at multiple properties belonging to former Speaker Anita Among. Muhoozi has warned that "no one will be spared," saying the president authorized the crackdown to target anyone except himself and the First Lady.
Muhoozi has not formally declared his candidacy for 2031, but the endorsement momentum has continued to build. President Museveni has previously linked his son's rise to weaknesses within the NRM, suggesting that youth frustration with the party is part of what fuels the "standby generator" phenomenon.
