KAMPALA, Uganda – Momentum behind Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 52nd Birthday Run continues to build across diplomatic circles, with Ethiopia’s top representative to the African Union becoming the latest high-profile figure to officially throw her weight behind the event.
H.E. Rebecca Amuge Otengo, Ethiopia’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the AU, UNECA, and IGAD, on Tuesday visited the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretariat in Naguru, where she secured her running kit and confirmed her participation in the much-anticipated Sunday, 26th April 2026 event.
While at the Secretariat, Ambassador Otengo voiced strong admiration for Gen. Muhoozi’s broader vision one that seamlessly blends physical fitness, patriotism, charitable outreach, and a renewed sense of hope for Uganda’s most vulnerable communities.
"This is more than a run. It is a statement of unity, health, and collective responsibility," the Ambassador was quoted as saying. Her endorsement carries particular weight given her simultaneous role as Permanent Representative to key continental bodies, signaling that the event has captured attention far beyond Uganda’s borders.
Organizers described the diplomatic backing as a significant milestone, noting that the growing international recognition elevates the run from a national fitness event to a regional platform for solidarity and humanitarian impact.
Preparations are now in top gear, with thousands of participants expected to converge at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Sunday morning. The run, which has evolved over the years into one of Uganda’s most anticipated public gatherings, will also raise funds and awareness for vulnerable communities, staying true to Gen. Muhoozi’s longstanding commitment to charity and national renewal.
