Diplomat’s Emotional Plea at Father’s Memorial: ‘They Don’t Want Me to Return Home

Kole district,Uganda–Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul, the esteemed Head of Chancery at the Uganda Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan and former Deputy Head of Mission in the United States, recently addressed deeply personal challenges, including alleged threats to his safety, during a memorial prayer for his late father, Mzee Silvesto Okul aka Dyang Wic, in Kuluyago Village, Telela Parish, Ayer Sub County, Kole District. Ambassador Okul's remarks underscored his unwavering dedication to his homeland and his steadfast resolve in the face of adversity.



During the gathering, Ambassador Okul acknowledged the unsettling experiences he has faced un the recent past, including attempts to impede his return home and community of Lango by a few defiant individuals. He shared his perspective, stating, "Some people are conflicting in this world; they don’t want others to have peace. They have been chasing me, wanting to kill me. Even when I tried to return home after five months away, they plotted against me." Despite these personal trials, Ambassador Okul demonstrated remarkable courage, affirming, "I am home now, and no one can kill me."


Ambassador Okul expressed profound gratitude to the Ugandan government for its swift action, which led to the apprehension of three individuals in connection with the alleged plot. "Yesterday evening, three people who wanted to kill me were arrested and are now in prison," he confirmed.


In a powerful display of magnanimity, Ambassador Okul extended forgiveness to those allegedly involved, even suggesting their release. "I have forgiven them. If they want, let them be given guns to shoot and kill me," he stated, emphasizing his deep faith. He further conveyed a personal directive to his relatives, requesting that no legal action be pursued should any harm befall him: "If they kill me, don’t open any case—let God pay for my blood. Blood speaks!" This sentiment highlights his profound spiritual outlook and trust in divine justice.


Mr. George Rashid Opio, the revered Malakwang clan leader, commended Ambassador Okul for his exemplary service and significant contributions to the nation, recognizing his distinguished career as a diplomat.
