A Road to Change: Abudul George’s Gesture Sparks Calls for His Election as Erute South MP

Lira District – Residents of Apanylongo and Abongorwot parishes in Agali Sub-County, Erute South, are celebrating after local leader and philanthropist Abudul George took the initiative to rehabilitate a 6km stretch of road that had been in a deplorable state for years.

The road, which connects Abongorwot Trading Center at Agali Seed Junction to Agali Primary School, had become nearly impassable, making it difficult for pupils to attend school, farmers to transport goods, and sick individuals to access medical care. Frustrated by the neglect, Abudul George stepped in, mobilizing resources to grade and restore the critical link.

"When I heard about the suffering of our people, I couldn’t wait," said George. "Children were missing school, patients couldn’t reach health centers, and businesses were struggling. This road is a lifeline, and fixing it was urgent."

The rehabilitation has been met with widespread appreciation, with many residents now pledging to support Abudul George’s political ambitions in the upcoming 2026 elections, where he is expected to contest for the **Erute South MP seat.

Bernard Okello Odur, the Chairperson of Veterans in Agali Sub-County, rallied the community to back George, stating, "He has shown us real leadership. If he can do this without being in office, imagine what he’ll achieve as our MP."

Other locals, like Hudson Ogwal, expressed disappointment in previous leaders, saying, "We voted for UPC, but they did nothing for this road. Abudul has proven that action speaks louder than words."

Geoffrey Juma, another resident, promised full support for George, adding, "We need leaders who listen and act. Abudul has earned our trust."

With the road now passable, life in the parishes is gradually returning to normal, and Abudul George’s name is on the lips of many as a beacon of hope for Erute South.
