“The Lion of Mogadishu”: Dr Tendo Ronex Kisembo Recalls 2018 Handover as Lt. Gen. Paul L’okech Is Remembered

Mogadishu/Kampala – A poignant tribute has emerged for the late Lt. Gen. Paul L’okech, the celebrated “Lion of Mogadishu,” as a former colleague recalled their first meeting at Base Camp in Somalia in 2018.

It was during that visit that the colleague chanced upon a significant military transition—witnessing Lt. Gen. Paul L’okech handing over the role of Sector One Commander to Brig. Gen. Michael Kabango.

“Happy to learn that Brig. Gen. Kabango is now the Commandant of Staff College Kimaka,” the colleague noted, reflecting on how careers have progressed since that day in Mogadishu.

The tribute concluded with a solemn prayer: “Mungu aziidi kuilaza roho yake pahala pema peponi. May the soul of the Lion of Mogadishu continue to rest in eternity.”
