AMOLATAR – The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Amolatar District has summoned its top official, District Chairperson Amolatar Kamilo Olwit, to appear before the party's district executive committee and sub-county chairpersons over serious allegations including abuse of office and mismanagement of party funds meant to support the NRM flag bearer during recent campaigns.
The decision was reached during a joint meeting held yesterday between the NRM district executive and all sub-county chairpersons. The summons marks a significant escalation of internal party tensions in the district.
Joel Alele, chairperson of the elders' league, accused Olwit of neglecting his leadership responsibilities. According to Alele, the district chairperson had been formally invited to attend the meeting on two previous occasions but declined both times.
"This is the final opportunity," Alele said, setting a deadline of May 6. "If he fails to appear by then, he will face removal from his position."
Alele drew a sharp historical parallel, reminding those present of the case of former NRM district chairperson James Olobo Dubai, who was ousted from office for similar reasons.
Olobo Adio, the sub-chairperson for Arwotcek, echoed the concerns, directly accusing Olwit of mismanaging party affairs and insisting that he must answer to the committee.
"The district chairperson cannot continue operating above the party structures," Adio said. "He must appear before us."
Amina Akello, the NRM Amolatar finance secretary, provided testimony that raised further questions about financial accountability. She clarified that funds she personally received were properly managed. However, she made a striking admission regarding money designated for the Office of the National Chairman (ONC).
"The money designated for the ONC did not come into my possession," Akello explained. "I merely signed for it without actually receiving it."
Her statement suggests a possible gap in financial controls, though investigations are expected to clarify who ultimately took custody of those funds.
Separately, the meeting also resolved to shortlist five candidates vying for the position of district speaker for Amolatar. The shortlisted names are:Eumu Patrick Kauma (Workers' Councillor),Francis Opio Obote (Namasale Sub-county Councillor),Nam Eve (Female Workers' Councillor),Martin Anyonge Nalibwoyo (Sub-county Councillor),Okao Kizito Agikdak (Sub-county Councillor),Mr. Oyuko (Namasale Town Council Councillor)
Goddy Otoo, who chaired the meeting, emphasized that the NRM's goal is to present a single, unified candidate to compete against opposition parties in future elections. He called for unity and fairness within the party, warning that internal divisions would only benefit political rivals.
"The party must stand together," Otoo said. "We need fairness in all our processes."
All eyes are now on May 6. If Olwit fails to appear before the committee, party elders have indicated they will proceed with removal procedures—a path that previously led to the ouster of his predecessor, James Olobo Dubai.
The summoned chairperson has not yet issued a public response to the allegations or the ultimatum.
