Lango Paramount Chief Warns Against Reckless LC1 Elections, Cites Stamps Used to Sell Stolen Property

Kole, Uganda – The Lango Paramount Chief, Dr. Eng. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, has issued a stern warning to the people of Lango, urging them to exercise extreme vigilance in the upcoming local council elections to avoid electing leaders with malicious intentions.

The Paramount Chief, also known as the Won Nyaci, made the remarks during a colorful coronation ceremony for the new Abwor Ibutu clan head, Levey Oyie Ogwok, held at Acae Ogik village in Okwerodot sub-county, Kole district.

Speaking before thousands of attendees, Dr. Odongo Okune cautioned that with the elections for Local Council One (LC1) chairpersons drawing near, the electorate must prioritize leaders who will serve the community’s interests. He warned of a growing trend where unscrupulous individuals use LC1 stamps to legitimize the sale of stolen property.

“Now that the elections for LC1 are near, people must elect those who will help them. There are rampant cases of LC1 stamps being used to sell stolen properties,” the Paramount Chief stated.

He further called upon clan heads across the Lango sub-region to act as custodians of moral and economic integrity. Dr. Odongo Okune emphasized that they should preach the “gospel” of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s vision, particularly focusing on household income and poverty alleviation.

Additionally, the Won Nyaci issued a strong warning against the reckless sale of land, a practice he noted is leaving many families landless and vulnerable. He directed clan leaders to discourage their subjects from disposing of their ancestral land without just cause.

“Clan heads must stop their subjects from selling their land for no reasons,” he asserted, framing land ownership as a cornerstone of community stability and economic empowerment.

In response, the newly enthroned Abwor Ibutu clan head, Levey Oyie Ogwok, pledged his loyalty and commitment to his people. He vowed to work under the leadership of Dr. Odongo Okune and remain steadfast in supporting the government of Uganda.

“I will be loyal to my people, the leadership of Odongo Okune, and the government of Uganda,” Mr. Ogwok declared to the cheering crowd.

The coronation ceremony was a significant cultural event, drawing thousands of people from across the region who gathered to witness the installation of the new clan leader.
