Kampala, Uganda – As the 12th Parliament of Uganda settles into its new term, an aspirant for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) has formally reached out to newly sworn-in Members of Parliament, requesting their support in the forthcoming EALA by-election.
In a letter addressed to “Honourable” Members, Dr. Kisembo Ronex Tendo extended his congratulations to legislators upon taking the oath of office, wishing them a tenure “marked by dedicated service, impactful leadership, and success in advancing our nation’s aspirations.” He also hailed colleagues who have been appointed Ministers, praying that God would “guide and bless their service.”
However, the correspondence quickly pivoted to a critical matter of regional representation. With humility, Dr. Kisembo formally requested the MPs’ votes in the upcoming EALA by-election, arguing that Uganda’s voice at the regional assembly requires more than political patronage.
“Uganda’s representation at EALA requires competence, experience, ideological clarity, and a firm commitment to the East African integration agenda,” Dr. Kisembo wrote.
The aspirant, who describes himself as committed to advancing regional cooperation and diplomacy, believes he possesses these qualities. His appeal comes at a strategic moment, as the new Parliament still in its early days will play a key role in determining who fills Uganda’s slots at the Arusha-based legislative body.
Political analysts note that the EALA by-election often serves as a test of both regional commitment and internal parliamentary diplomacy. For Dr. Kisembo, the race is an opportunity to bring a fresh ideological lens to East African integration.
“I remain committed to advancing regional cooperation and diplomacy,” he reiterated, thanking the MPs for their consideration.
As the 12th Parliament begins its work, Dr. Kisembo’s request now joins the growing list of priorities facing Uganda’s newest lawmakers.
