KAMPALA – The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the CID and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, has secured the remand of a suspect accused of orchestrating an elaborate forgery scheme targeting the Uganda Railways Corporation.
Arinda Nicholas appeared this afternoon before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court, charged with forgery, uttering a false document, and obtaining money by false pretence. He was immediately remanded to prison until 9th March 2026.
Prosecutors allege that Arinda, together with an accomplice still at large, fabricated an appointment letter dated 4th December 2024, bearing Ref: PO/23. The document purported to appoint one Mr. Nagwomu Alfred as the Managing Director of Uganda Railways Corporation—and was falsely presented as having been signed by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda.
Court documents indicate that the President did not authorise or sign any such letter.
Using the forged instrument, Arinda and his co-accused allegedly extorted over UGX 20 million from Mr. Nagwomu, leading him to believe the funds would facilitate his appointment to the top state corporation post.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit confirmed the arraignment via official channels, reiterating its commitment to pursuing individuals who exploit the name of high public office to defraud unsuspecting citizens.
The suspect now awaits further court proceedings while on remand. Efforts to trace the second suspect are ongoing.
