Amolatar, Uganda – July 22, 2026 – The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Amolatar, Francis Okello Odoki Rwotlonyo, has ordered the immediate arrest of Orech Solomon and Akinyi Eunice following a horrific incident in which they allegedly tortured their 10-year-old son by pouring a burning jerrican over his body.
The brutal attack occurred on Monday at Amolatar Headquarters B, Inomo Ward, within the Amolatar Town Council. According to police reports, Orech Solomon—the stepfather of the boy—locked the child inside their home and proceeded to beat him before igniting a jerrican and emptying its burning contents onto the boy.
A passerby heard the child's screams, intervened, and managed to rescue the boy from the scene. The Good Samaritan then rushed the severely injured boy to the residence of the Local Council I (LCI) Chairperson, Muge Tom, where he received initial care.
On Wednesday, a team from the Uganda Human Rights Commission (Amolatar branch), led by Mr. Opok Dan, visited the victim at the LCI's home. The team took custody of the boy and transported him to the RDC's office for further assessment. He was later escorted to Amolatar Central Police Station, where a case of torture was formally registered under SD REF: 62/20/02026.
Medical personnel issued a treatment form to the team, and the boy was subsequently admitted to Amolatar Health Center IV, where he is currently receiving medical care for burns and other injuries sustained during the attack.
RDC Okello Rwotlonyo condemned the act in the strongest terms and has directed the police to expedite efforts to apprehend the couple. "Such cruelty against an innocent child will not be tolerated. I have instructed law enforcement to ensure that these suspects are brought to justice swiftly," the RDC stated.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that both the boy's biological mother, Akinyi Eunice, and stepfather, Orech Solomon, have fled their residence and are currently at large. Police have launched a manhunt for the couple, who now face charges of torture and aggravated child abuse.
The case has drawn outrage from local leaders and human rights advocates, who are calling for maximum penalties to deter similar acts of violence against minors. Authorities urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to report to the nearest police station.
