Auma Linda Donates Maize Threshers to NRM Leaders, Vows to Transform Lira District Leadership

Lira, Uganda – In a move to empower grassroots leaders and fulfill her campaign pledge, Auma Linda Agness, a contestant for the NRM chairperson seat in Lira District, donated maize threshers to NRM leaders in Erute North on Saturday. The beneficiaries included sub-county leaders from Aromo, Ayami, Agweng, and Agweng Town Council.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Auma reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the NRM’s presence in the district. “This is just the beginning,” she said. “I promised to give each sub-county NRM executive a maize thresher to help generate income for party activities, and I am delivering on that promise.”

She emphasized the need for self-reliance within the party:

“NRM must have its own money instead of depending solely on the Secretariat. With these machines, our local leaders can earn by hiring them out and invest in the growth of our structures.”

Positioning herself as a decisive and transformative leader, Auma took aim at her political rivals:”I am the neutralizer for Lira District. Unlike those who only bring empty promises, I bring action. How can we elect someone as district NRM chairperson who cannot even win an election?”

Auma, who also serves as Woman Member of Parliament, pledged to focus on the welfare of NRM leaders and supporters across the district. She promised to provide agricultural inputs such as seedlings and to secure markets for farmers’ produce.

Dismissing rumors that she is being influenced by external forces, Auma responded strongly:”I cannot be bought. Those spreading such propaganda are just haters who fear real change.”

Her bid is shaping into a competitive race against senior presidential advisor Sam Engola, with elections expected next week after two postponements.

Auma’s candidacy continues to gain traction among key local leaders.

Akello Jolly, a district councilor for Aromo and Ayami sub-counties, along with Tonny Ogwal, the Ayami sub-county veterans chairperson, and Ojok Tonny, vice chairperson for youth in the same sub-county, have publicly pledged their support.

Tom Alex Ogwal, chairperson of Ayami, and Oscar Omara of Aromo echoed similar sentiments, vowing that their delegates will rally behind Auma. In Agweng sub-county and Agweng Town Council, nine additional leaders declared their allegiance.

With visible grassroots support and a clear development agenda, Auma Linda Agness is positioning herself as a frontrunner in what could be a turning point for Lira District’s NRM leadership.
