Opem, Bar Sub County – At the age of 106, Mr. James Okabo Acar has seen generations pass and clans rise and fall. But on Saturday, he turned his gaze to the future, giving his official blessing to the new Clan Head of the Okii Raki Okwero Coboro, Mr. Emmy Joe Odongo, while issuing a firm directive to the clan's future: educate the children.
The historic meeting took place at Okabo Acar's home in Opem, where the new Clan Head and his executive paid homage to the centenarian elder. The visit was loaded with significance as Mr. Odongo sought to formalize his leadership and heal the fractures within the community.
Discussions were centered on the development of the clan, with Mr. Odongo explaining that his election was in line with the law. He pledged to ensure a leadership style full of love and unity, actively working to bring back members who had broken away from the clan.
Elder Okabo Acar, after confirming his support for the new Chief, urged the clan to rally behind him. But his most poignant message was reserved for the youth. He stressed that while leadership and land are important, the ultimate "development" and legacy for the Lango people is education. He called on parents to ensure their children are sent to school as a priority for the clan's survival and prosperity.
