The Okii Raki Okwerocobo clan is in mourning following the passing of veteran footballer and clan elder, Mr. James Okabo Acar, who has died at the remarkable age of 106 years.
Clan Head, Mr. Emmy Joe Odongo, has led the tributes to the late centenarian, describing him as a pillar of the community who dedicated his life to both sports and the development of his people. In a condolence message to the family, Odongo reflected on the life of a man who was not only a good person but a passionate promoter of athletics within the region.
"Okabo Acar was a good man who loved sports and worked tirelessly to promote it among our youth," Odongo said in his tribute. "He was a mentor and a source of guidance not just for me, but for many leaders in our clan and beyond."
The late Acar’s wisdom was particularly evident during a significant meeting just weeks before his death. On June 27, 2026, Odongo and his cabinet paid a courtesy visit to the elder at his home. During that meeting, Acar offered the new Clan Head crucial advice for the future of the Okii Raki Okwerocobo.
"His counsel was very clear. He advised me to unite the clan as the Clan Head and to focus on bringing our people together," Odongo recounted. "He was a good advisor and someone who promoted education fiercely. He reminded us that the ultimate development for our people is ensuring our children are educated."
The elder emphasized that while land and leadership are important, the true legacy lies in parents paying school fees and educating the next generation.
Odongo and his cabinet have since pledged to honor the memory of Okabo Acar by adhering to his final requests, vowing to focus on education and unity as the cornerstones of their tenure.
