Lira Regional Referral Hospital Begins 450-Meter Police Road Upgrade on April 27

LIRA, Uganda – Lira Regional Referral Hospital (LRRH) has announced the official launch of the rehabilitation of a 450-meter section of the Police road within the hospital premises, scheduled for Monday, 27th April, 2026.


According to a press release signed by the Acting Hospital Director, Dr. Andrew Odur, the road stretches from the main gate of Lira School of comprehensive Nursing and Midwifery to the Outpatient/Emergency Unit, and ends at the new Ambulance Call and Dispatch Centre. The section runs between the intersection of Hospital road and Kitgum road.


Following the conclusion of procurement processes, the works have been handed over to MJ Contractors and Supplies Limited, with a contract period of two months.


The rehabilitation will include:Paving using heavy-duty pavers,Upgrade of the drainage system, especially for stormwater and Installation of streetlights to enhance night security


The project is part of the hospital's broader development agenda aimed at creating a safer, more efficient, and patient-friendly environment 

To allow for safe execution of the works, the section of the road will be temporarily closed. Patients, caregivers, and visitors are advised to use the following alternative gates to access the hospital:Satellite Laboratory gate along Ngetta road,Eye department gate,Mortuary gate

and Administration gate


LRRH also commended Lira City Council for facilitating the closure of the road for public use during the construction period.


Dr. Odur acknowledged that the temporary closure may cause some inconvenience but appealed for patience and cooperation from the general public, patients, staff, and all stakeholders.


"These critical improvements are being undertaken for the benefit of all," the statement read.
