Katikamu, Luweero District – Yosam Salongo, a successful cocoa farmer with eight acres of plantation, has called on the people of Lango and Erute North to embrace cocoa farming, citing its life-changing potential. Salongo, who planted his cocoa in 2018, revealed that he earns over 2 million shillings weekly, even in bad seasons, proving the crop’s profitability.
Speaking to Karumapost reporter who had visited his farm, Salongo praised Retired Major Emmy Johnson Opio,a leader spearheading a campaign to boost cocoa production in the region. Opio has distributed nearly 100,000 free cocoa seedlings to farmers in Erute North and Lango, aiming to uplift communities through agriculture.
“Cocoa has a wide market, and it can turn poverty into wealth," Salongo declared. “I will harvest cocoa for a hundred years—meaning even my grandchildren will benefit. They will go to good schools and have a bright future."**
Salongo urged the people of Lango to rally behind Major Opio, describing him as a visionary leader committed to transforming lives. He also called on voters in Erute North to support Opio’s bid for Parliament, citing his tangible contributions to the community.
