Lira District, Uganda – June 11, 2025 — The political momentum in Lira District has taken a decisive turn as NRM delegates from Erute South sub-counties have thrown their weight behind Hon. Linda Agness Auma, the current Woman Member of Parliament for Lira District, in her bid to become the next NRM district chairperson.
Hon. Auma, who is contesting against a senior presidential advisor in charge of Lango Sam Engola , has been on a vigorous grassroots campaign that has seen her traverse all eleven sub-counties of Lira District over the past few days. Her campaign efforts have not only included meetings with party delegates but also the donation of maize thresher machines, aiming to bolster agricultural productivity at the household level.
In a notable shift, delegates from previously unsupportive sub-counties such as Bar, Itek, and Awiodyek have pledged their backing to Auma’s candidacy. The change in sentiment followed a series of passionate addresses in which Auma outlined her vision for the party and the district.
“It’s time for the NRM to start a new journey—one that brings real economic opportunities to our people,” Auma told a crowd in Awiodyek. “We must transform our communities through wealth creation, not just politics. Let’s become examples of what a progressive NRM can achieve.”
Her speeches have resonated with many local leaders and delegates, particularly her focus on grassroots economic empowerment and inclusive development. Auma emphasized that under her leadership, the party would focus on programs that directly impact livelihoods, encouraging self-sufficiency and economic resilience.
The NRM primaries for the Lira District chairperson position have been postponed twice, creating heightened anticipation and strategic positioning among the candidates. However, Auma’s growing popularity and increasing delegate support may give her a clear edge in the upcoming vote.
Delegates from Bar, Itek, and Awiodyek expressed renewed confidence in Auma’s leadership, citing her practical approach and commitment to community-based development.
“We now see that Auma Linda is not just about promises—she’s about action,” said a delegate from Itek. “We are ready to support her fully to lead the party into a more economically empowered future.”
As the campaign season intensifies, Auma’s focus remains clear: to unite the party under a new vision and steer Lira District toward meaningful transformation.
