LIRA CITY, Uganda – The Territorial Police in Lira City West Division are investigating a horrific case of aggravated gang rape involving a 20-year-old businesswoman who was attacked twice by two different groups of men within a single hour, police have confirmed.
According to a statement released by SP Patrick Okema, Public Relations Officer for the North Kyoga Region, the incident occurred in the early hours of May 2, 2026.
The victim, a resident of Aminyanga Cell, Amuca Ward, had been spending leisure time with a group of friends at the Grand Paradise Hotel in Amuca. At around 1:00 AM, the group was escorting one of their colleagues home when they were ambushed in Owiti Cell.
A gang of more than ten unidentified males attacked the group. The assailants forcefully seized her, dragged her into a nearby bush, where seven of them allegedly subjected her to a brutal gang rape before releasing her.
In a shocking turn of events, as the traumatized victim was making her way home alone at approximately 2:00 AM, she reached Olago Cell. There, she reportedly encountered two additional unknown men who also sexually assaulted her.
Meanwhile, the other members of her group including the complainant, Aceng Naume managed to escape during the initial chaos and promptly reported the matter to the Amuca Police Post.
Acting on intelligence, police launched an immediate operation that led to the arrest of six suspects. They have been identified as:
Ogwang Stanley(20),Odok Joshua(20),Ocaya Emmanuel(21),Mule Emmy(20) and two miners who are 17 years
All six are currently in police custody pending further interrogation.
Evidence & Ongoing Investigation
The Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) has visited and documented both crime scenes, and relevant forensic evidence has been recovered. The victim has been medically examined and is receiving care.
Preliminary findings reveal that some of the arrested suspects were found in possession of breaking implements and dangerous weapons, including a knife.
“Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the crime,” SP Okema stated. “Further updates will be provided as inquiries progress.”
The police have appealed to anyone with information about the remaining assailants to come forward.
