ALE BTONG, UGANDA – A joint operation by the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) has led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man in Alebtong District, accused of leading a series of criminal activities that have instilled fear in the local community.
The suspect, identified as Innocent Okello, a resident of Amugu Sub-county, was apprehended at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. His arrest followed a surge in reports from residents concerning a wave of alleged criminal incidents.
Alebtong Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Jimmy Okello confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect was a known figure to security authorities. The RDC alleged that Okello is linked to a string of violent crimes, including housebreaking, assault, attacks on women, rape, and robbery.
According to the RDC, the suspect is believed to be associated with other individuals involved in similar criminal activities. "Investigations into the allegations are ongoing," Jimmy Okello stated.
The suspect is currently being held at Alebtong Central Police Station under SD Reference No. 06/09/15/2026 as investigations continue.
The arrest has been welcomed by local leaders. David Ojom, the LCIII Chairperson of Amugu Sub-county, expressed relief, noting that the alleged criminal activities had made life difficult for residents. He urged security agencies to continue their efforts in pursuing individuals suspected of criminal conduct.
"We appeal to residents to cooperate with security authorities by providing timely information about suspected criminal activities," Ojom said, emphasizing the need for community partnership to ensure justice is served through the courts.
In a related development, police last week arrested three other suspects allegedly linked to drug abuse and assault in Amugu Market. Those suspects have reportedly been remanded in custody pending further court proceedings.
The arrest of Innocent Okello highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces in the Lango sub-region to combat crime and restore stability.
