The Minister of State for Economic Monitoring in the Office of the President and Woman Member of Parliament for Oyam District, Hon. Santa Sandra Alum Ogwang, has fulfilled her pledge to St. Peter's Church Anyeke in Oyam Urban Archdeaconry headquarters by donating two tents worth 6.4 million shillings.
The handover ceremony took place on Monday, September 21, 2026, bringing relief to the church community which had long awaited the fulfillment of the promise.
Speaking during the handover, Chris Ongom, who represented the Minister, explained that each tent accommodates 100 people, making a total capacity of 200. He noted that the donation was in response to a pledge made earlier when Rev. Can George Amoli served as Archdeacon of Oyam Urban Archdeaconry.
Ongom emphasized that the tents will support church activities such as zonal and archdeaconry fellowships, adding that Hon. Alum remains committed to continually supporting faith-based institutions and community development.
Rev. Canon Robert Edinga, Archdeacon and Vicar of Oyam Urban Archdeaconry, who also serves as zonal coordinator of Oyam Anglican Church, expressed deep appreciation for the donation. He highlighted that the tents will greatly boost church activities, including fellowships and village prayers, especially during Holy Communion services where rain often disrupted gatherings.
Rev. Edinga further urged other politicians to emulate Hon. Alum's example of fulfilling pledges, stressing that many leaders make promises but fail to honor them.
Patrick Okwir Angulo, Chairperson Laity of Oyam Urban Archdeaconry and Chairperson of Household and Community Transformation at St. Peter's Church Anyeke, also thanked Hon. Alum. He described the donation as "preaching the gospel in the form of giving," noting that the tents will enhance Bible study and evangelism.
Okwir emphasized that the contribution was not political, as it was requested outside the campaign season, and congratulated the Minister for her generosity.
Christian members, including Sarah Ajok of Okwir Cell in Eastern Ward, Oyam Town Council, joined in appreciating the Minister's support. They acknowledged that the donation will strengthen the church's ability to conduct fellowships, evangelism, and village-to-village services without disruption.
The donation is seen as a significant boost to the spiritual and community life of St. Peter's Church Anyeke and the wider Oyam Urban Archdeaconry.
