Lira City, May 16, 2025 – The Minister for Health and Lira Woman Member of Parliament, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, has urged women to recognize their inherent strength and resilience, emphasizing that they were created stronger than men.
Dr. Aceng made the remarks on Friday while launching the Elim Pentecostal Women’s Conference for Northern Uganda at Elim Church Kirombe in Lira City.
Addressing hundreds of women, the minister drew inspiration from the biblical creation story, stating that while men were made from dust, women were fashioned from bone—a stronger material—symbolizing their enduring nature.
“Women must know that they are strong people. God made men from sand, but He made women from bone. This means you are stronger, more resilient, and capable of great things," Dr. Aceng declared.
She rallied women against self-doubt, encouraging them to be courageous in developing their homes and communities.
“Do not underlook yourselves. Believe that you can do better, and work hard to uplift your families," she added.
The minister also cautioned women against abandoning their homes or disrespecting their husbands, stressing that mutual respect and love are key to a prosperous marriage.
“A strong home is built when a woman respects and loves her husband, and together they grow," she said.
Additionally, Dr. Aceng emphasized the importance of faith, urging women to pray and live for God always, because the beginning of wisdom is knowing Him.
Angela Noky, the women’s leader for Elim Pentecostal Church in Northern Uganda, highlighted that the conference aims to equip women with spiritual knowledge, home management skills, health education, and vocational training to boost their income-generating abilities.
She expressed gratitude to Dr. Aceng for honoring their invitation, acknowledging her as a role model for women in leadership.
Bishop Julius Eyit of Elim Church commended the minister for her faith and service, urging her to continue loving God for a brighter future.
As a token of appreciation, the church presented Dr. Aceng with a goat and a chicken.
In a generous response, the Health Minister donated two million shillings to support the women’s initiatives and distributed over 70 mama kits to expectant mothers, furthering her commitment to women’s health and empowerment.
The conference continues with training sessions aimed at fostering economic and spiritual growth among women in Northern Uganda.
