Nairobi, Kenya – In a significant step toward honoring the legacy of East Africa's integration pioneers, a delegation from the Afrika Mashariki Fest (AMF) Uganda Chapter, led by Group CEO Dr. Tendo Ronex Kisembo, paid a courtesy call on the Rt. Hon. Dr. Moses Wetang'ula, Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly, in his Nairobi chambers today .
The meeting served as a prelude to the much-anticipated 3rd Edition of the Twende Zetu Butiama Pilgrimage Safari, scheduled to take place from October 1st to 20th, 2026. This annual pilgrimage is a journey to the heart of East Africa's liberation history, culminating in Butiama, Tanzania—the ancestral home and resting place of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere .
Dr. Kisembo briefed Speaker Wetang'ula on the extensive preparations for the upcoming tour, which aims to reconnect the region's youth with the values of unity and sacrifice that birthed the East African Community. "All gave some, some gave all, " Dr. Kisembo remarked, echoing the sentiment of gratitude towards the region's founders. "We may not know them all, but we owe them all. Remembering our Founding Fathers is Noble " .
The delegation expressed profound gratitude for the warm reception and the words of wisdom shared by Speaker Wetang'ula. The 2026 Pilgrimage will expand its scope beyond Nyerere's legacy to include visits to the homes and resting places of other key founders, such as the late Dr. Apollo Milton Obote in Uganda and Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in Kenya, offering a holistic commemoration of the region's shared heritage .

The Twende Zetu Butiama initiative remains a flagship project of the Afrika Mashariki Fest, a regional youth platform dedicated to using art, sports, and cultural dialogue to champion regional integration .
