Dokolo, Uganda – Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery has achieved a historic milestone, recording its highest student enrollment in a single semester with 64 students registering under Set 14, as the institution officially ushered in a new student leadership on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
The colorful handover ceremony saw outgoing Guild and Uganda National Association of Students of Nursing and Midwifery (UNASNM) leaders pass the baton to newly elected officials, marking both a new chapter in student governance and a significant vote of confidence in the institution's health training programs.
Speaking as the chief guest, Mr. Osika Franchise, Station Manager at LBS Radio and Chief Executive Officer of Platform for Community Empowerment (PLACE), challenged the incoming leaders to embrace servant leadership, humility, integrity, and courage.
"Remain approachable, listen to students' concerns, and understand the challenges affecting the student community," Osika urged, cautioning them against allowing positions to breed pride. He emphasized the importance of working closely with both students and administration to promote institutional growth.
Osika further encouraged the leaders to handle disagreements with respect and dignity, noting that constructive debate is an essential part of effective leadership. He reminded all students that nursing and midwifery are critical professions demanding professionalism, compassion, discipline, and unwavering commitment to patients' wellbeing.
Speaking on behalf of the Principal, Acan Vivian Emily, the Academic Registrar congratulated the newly elected leaders while reminding them that leadership comes with sacrifice and responsibility. She urged them to become role models through exemplary behavior, strong academic performance, and professionalism.
Acan reaffirmed the institution's commitment to providing quality academic training and practical skills to produce competent, ethical, and professional nurses and midwives. She encouraged students to freely approach the administration with academic or personal challenges, pledging continued support.
The Academic Registrar also commended the outgoing student leaders for serving with dignity and bridging the gap between the student body and the administration. She encouraged them to continue developing their leadership skills beyond the institution, noting that some could become influential leaders in the future.
The Dean of Students, Mr. Ojara Solomon, appreciated the outgoing leaders for their service and contribution to student development. He challenged the incoming leaders to emulate their predecessors while listening to students' concerns and working closely with the administration.
The RDC of Kaberamaido District, Godfrey Nyakahuma, commended the students for choosing nursing and midwifery, noting that the government continues to strengthen the health sector and will require competent health workers. He urged the students to remain focused on their studies and take their professional training seriously.
